McMaster University Study Featuring Electronic Patient Diary Recognized as a “2005 Best of Medical Informatics”
Use of Arrowhead Electronic Healthcare’s electronic patient diary resulted in improved patient reporting over traditional paper diaries

AUSTIN, Texas (January 12, 2006) — A study featuring the use of Arrowhead Electronic Healthcare’s Electronic Patient Diary (EPD) has been selected to appear in an international “2005 Best of Medical Informatics” list published by The International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA). The study, entitled “Comparing hand-held computers and paper diaries for haemophilia home therapy: a randomized trial1,” was first published in the Haemophilia 2004 journal. It was selected by the IMIA editorial board as a study that is “internationally representative of an important topic in medical informatics with strong scientific content.”
The article, written by Irwin Walker, M.D., McMaster University Medical Centre, Ontario, Canada, reported the results of a study which compared Arrowhead Electronic Healthcare’s EPD to paper patient diaries. Arrowhead’s EPD improved hemophilia patients’ adherence to reporting requirements and resulted in submission of key hemophilia patient data to treating physicians and nurses in a more timely manner.
The study will be included in the list to be published in the IMIA Yearbook, available in July 2006 to more than 20,000 members of the health and biomedical scientific community worldwide.
